I’ve had a major think for anything floral lately. This jacket is older but I linked some really cute blazers above that I’m loving. The blazer from Banana Republic is seriously the perfect for spring and is currently in my online shopping cart.
Hope you’re having a great week, thanks for stopping by!
We had a fun weekend celebrating Billy’s 9th birthday mixed in with a little St. Patricks Day celebration. We tried to convince Billy that they dyed the river green for him since it’s his favorite color but I don’t think he cared what the reason was, he thought it was pretty great. Downtown Chicago is one of my favorite places, I don’t think you can run out of new places to explore, there’s so much to do! I love that the weather is warming up and we can get outside and explore this new place we call home.
While we were downtown we went to The Doughnut Vault. Billy’s obsessed with donuts and is determined to try all the donut shops in Chicago, it’s going to take a while! We’ve heard that The Doughnut Vault has the best donuts in Chicago so we thought we’d give it a go. The line was long, super long, like wrapped around the block long but we were determined to try it and see if it lives up to the hype. They didn’t disappoint, they were delish! So if you’re in Chicago and craving donuts look them up and try them out. We also love Stan’s Donuts and I think Firecakes Donuts is my favorite but they have an ice cream donut so that’s almost cheating! Do-Rite Donuts will be our next donut stop.
Mother’s Day is only a couple weeks away and I’ve put the perfect gift ideas that are all under $100. You can’t go wrong with pink, a nice white blouse, or a fresh scent. Hope this helps give you some good ideas for the Mother’s in your life.
It’s the most wonderful time of the year… New York Fashion Week!!! Even though I’m not there I’ve been stalking my favorite designers on Instagram to see what they’re showing off for fall. I’ve been so inspired by the different looks that have made it down the runway and I’m sharing my favorites today.
First off is Kate Spade, the pink and bows get me every time!
I’ve also been dying over everything from the Banana Republic Show, I can’t wait to get my hands on some of these heels!
And last but not least, J.Crew! I want it all, it’s all so gorgeous and wearable! I think my favorite is the blue skirt with a tie and the pink turtleneck with that cute clutch, how perfect is it!?! Have you had a chance to check out the looks from fashion week? What are your favorites? If you’re on Instagram follow me, CaliCrest, to see more of my favorites! xoxo, -M **All photos were found on Instagram under #NYFW**
I still can’t believe the holidays are over! The kids went back to school today so I guess it’s back to reality and time to be on our schedule again which means I’m back to blogging. I’ve worn a lot of red over the holidays and am ready to soften things up with pink. Pink is a favorite color of mine, it’s just so pretty!
Hope you’re all having a great start to 2015 and getting adjusted after the holidays! Thanks for reading!!
While Joel and I were out driving around we came across this awesome building with some amazing artwork, Biggie was of course my favorite! I had to have my picture taken by him and decided to make a post out of it. It takes me back to my High School days, now I want to listen to Hypnotize and bust out some old cheer moves. RIP Biggie Smalls!
On a fashion note, I’ve been looking for some grey jeans for a while and have had a hard time finding some cute ones at a reasonable price. Gap Jeans to the rescue! I found these and wasn’t sure about them at first because they’re a skimmer, but after I tried them on with a few different heels and even flats I fell in love. These jeans are going to be on major repeat around here!
Thanks for stopping by, hope you’re having a great week!
I’ve had such an obsession with stripes lately. Just about every stripe I see I want to buy. This top was no exception, especially with it being on sale. It’s so light and summery, it’s perfect! I think it’s going to be on major repeat for me!
Thanks so much for stopping by, hope you’re having a great Thursday!
I’ve kind of been obsessed with blue this Spring. I picked up these blue jeans on sale at the Gap and have loved them! Can you tell I have a thing for Gap jeans? How could you not with the price, they’re always having some sort of sale and they fit great. I’m also loving statement necklaces, it’s the perfect way to dress up a casual outfit. Hope you’re all having a great week, thanks for stopping by!
Last night my daughter, Elle graduated from Elementary School. I’m in shock that I have a Middle Schooler! It seems like just yesterday I was sending her to kindergarten, where has the time gone? Since I don’t dress up everyday I thought I’d share what I wore last night. It’s starting to get pretty hot down here and I knew I’d be chasing both my boys around (Joel’s out-of-town) so I wanted to wear something airy and light to the graduation. I’m obsessed with this Banana Republic skirt, my mom bought it for me for my birthday and I absolutely love it! I always worry about wearing white with kids (messy boys at that) but I’ve managed to keep this skirt clean so far! Hope you’re having a good week, yay for summer break! Thanks for stopping by!
Happy February! It’s the month of love and over the weekend Elle and I decided to get into the spirit by making some delicious heart-shaped pie cookies. I found some apple pie cookies on pinterest during the fall that my family loved and figured we should change them a bit and make them for Valentines. We used a cherry filling (Billy’s request) and it turned out great! I added step by step pictures of our baking process and our recipe.
Cherry Pie Cookies…
1 Box of Pillsbury Pie Crust (2 sheets per box)
1 Can Cherry Pie Filling (or whatever flavor you choose)
1 Egg for egg-wash
Sugar for sprinkling
Heart shaped cookie cutter
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Lay out both pie crust, cut heart shapes, add cherry pie filling in the center of your hearts (I added 3-4 cherries to each heart, works better if you cut the cherries up a bit), put the tops on and lightly press around the edges of the heart (it’s okay if a little pie filling seeps out, it’ll be ooey and gooey). With a pastry brush, brush a little egg onto each pie cookie and then sprinkle a little sugar on top. Put in the oven and bake for about 15 minutes (until the tops are golden). Should make about 12 pie cookies depending on the heart shapes you use. Enjoy!
